This project was inspired by the rainbow of colors of natural slate which is the result of chemicals and minerals found in the different geographical locations, and the lines and contours of its surface created from external forces over time. The uniqueness of each tile is akin to the unique individuals of the human race, whose beautiful variety can be attributed to those same forces.
As with slate, we each have our story of pressure, experience and time that makes us who we are and how we look today. My images here tell that story of our vulnerability alongside our strength and determination to survive.
Each image here is a photograph of a print that I created using cyanotype solutions in non-traditional ways as my paint , adding the texture of slate tiles by transferring its contours through wax rubbings or painting onto wet tissue over the tile. To each print I added natural pigments to emphasize colors and shapes,
